Caroline & David | Engagements | Austin, TX

Caroline and David are getting married in July in Tyler so their engagements is the first time that I got to meet the couple. We had to switch dates several times to accommodate everyone and we ended up choosing the weekend of SXSW at Zilker Park. What was my brain doing when I didn’t even consider the hundreds of people swarming about? I guess it was on vacation. Caroline and David were SUCH awesome sports about the hot weather, the botched plans (feeding the ducks.. where are the ducks?!), and the crowds.

Caroline and David met in college through mutual interests and classes. They’ve maintained their relationship long distance since graduating and are literally counting down the days until they marry and get to start the new chapter of their lives together, in the same place. I loved the sweetness they had for each other and how easy and flowing having a conversation was as we moved around to find the best spots.

I seriously can not wait for their wedding day! Caroline has such great style and taste so I know that everything is going to be beautiful. And speaking of Caroline and style, the headband that she’s wearing, she made herself. Check out her awesome Etsy shop: Cotton Lane. I adore her things!

Skippy & James | Wedding | The Phoenix Room, Waco

Skippy and James were married last month at the beautiful Phoenix Room in Waco. Their ceremony was after sunset so we weren’t able to get portraits of the two of them together until it was way past dark outside. If you’ve been keeping up with the blog for any amount of time, you can probably pretty easily guess that natural light is my best friend. Sun! Flare! Love! But sometimes, it’s just not available and I’m challenged to step out of my sun box and take a different approach.

I had so much fun with Skippy and James and the awesome convertible that a friend lent them for the evening. One of my favorite parts of the wedding day is when I am alone with the bride and groom, hands down. And with Skippy and James, it was no exception.

Austin Carnival Engagements | Erin + Matt

When we heard the carnival was coming to town we knew we had to have an ‘engagement inspired’ session there as soon as we possibly could. I’m not sure when the last time I went to a fair was (I’m sure I was a kid), but it was exactly how I envisioned it: fun and full of bright colors, pretty lights, and so much cotton candy (Important side note: We LOVE cotton candy.)

Erin and Matt were so much fun to be around and really made this a great shoot. We spent time walking the fair grounds, looking at all the games and rides, and ended the night as the sun set in a grassy field by the ferris wheel. And doesn’t Erin look gorgeous?

Carrie & David | First Look | Austin, TX

A first look is where the bride and groom see each other before the actual ceremony. A lot of people are nervous that it takes away it’s specialness, but I just think it’s a different sort of special. A moment is created where you can see each other for the first time with out hundreds of people looking at you and you get a moment to breathe in the awesomeness of the day, together. I’ve noticed that couples that do first looks are generally a lot calmer before the wedding because you have your best friend to ease your nerves.

No matter what you do, seeing each other for the first time on your wedding day is going to be special, so it’s completely up to you how you want to do it. I don’t think there’s a wrong answer, I just think there’s more than one answer! Check out Carrie and David’s first look, featured below.

Jessica & the girls | Family | Austin, TX

Jessica and her daughters, Tori and Joey, had just moved in to a nice new home and wanted to celebrate with some family photos. Of course, I was in. Jessica’s been cutting my hair (Urban Betty- check her out!) for about two years now and I’ve loved getting to know her and her daughters during our times together. They are super close and have FUN together. Real fun. What I really love is that Jessica treats her daughters with respect, so that they are her friends as well as her children. Definitely an awesome thing to witness.

For their session, they invited Tori’s friend Paige to take part in the pictures and we spent the afternoon hanging around their home, petting pups, laughing and even making valentines.
